Moving and Assisting
This course covers the theory and practice of using a hoist and other moving and handling equipment. The course gives learners the opportunity to learn and demonstrate a variety of moving and handling practices, including the use of scenario-based learning. Delegates come away with crucial knowledge on the importance of good moving and handling, and consequences of poor practice.
Please note, practical footwear must be worn for this course.
Course Syllabus
– The theory of Moving and Repositioning including relevant legislation, employer/employee responsibilities, risk assessment, handling plans, functions of the spine and what could go wrong, unsafe moves and consequences of using.
– Practical session using mobile hoists including checking the hoist for service history, a visual check before use, checking sling for wear and tear and making sure it is the correct sling for the individual, slide sheets, ETAC slide sheets, transfer belts if appropriate to care setting and transfer boards if appropriate.
